How to act when a child has the flu?
Dr. Mazen Abu Shaaban, a pediatric consultant and pediatric kidney disease consultant, recommends the following recommendations when a child is infected with seasonal influenza:
Home care care Attention must be paid to achieving complete home care for the child after contracting seasonal influenza as follows:
Ventilate the house well, so that there is no chance for the virus to spread inside the house.
Complete rest, as the child needs adequate sleep to restore his energy in the face of seasonal flu symptoms, to speed up the recovery process.
Drink warm fluids, as they help moisturize the throat and reduce congestion.
Eat healthy food, provide nutritious soups and easy-to-digest foods.
Reduce the temperature by using warm compresses on the forehead to calm the fever, and follow it well.
Monitor symptoms, by paying attention to any severe signs such as difficulty breathing or fever lasting more than three days. If severe symptoms appear, you should see a doctor immediately.Isolate the child infected with seasonal influenza, avoid mixing with other family members and other children outside the same family, and sterilize his toys and personal items.
Psychological comfort, as it is very important to reassure the child permanently and effectively and provide him with a comfortable atmosphere to relieve anxiety and fear that negatively affect the immune system.
