The hospital has 16 NICU bassinets, with four private rooming-in rooms and two spacious isolation rooms, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and technologies including the various modes of mechanical ventilation, ranging from non-invasive ventilation to conventional and high-frequency ventilation.
The department is led by Dr. Rima Mounla, American board-certified Neonatology Consultant and widely experienced neonatology specialized doctors; supported by a wide range of medical, surgical pediatric sub-specialty consultants, and an experienced dedicated staff of nurses.
In the Neonatal High-Risk clinic, the hospital provides RSV prophylaxis (Synagis) as indicated, and monitors growth and development of the precious NICU grads.
Fakeeh University Hospital accepts babies born in as low as 28 weeks gestation of pregnancy and treats neonates from birth till 28 days of age. Making it one amongst the very few Level III NICU in the region. Every attempt is made to deliver evidence-based care in a manner that fosters optimal growth and development of the infant.
Fakeeh University Hospital’s NICU team’s care plan starts early in the pregnancy, with antenatal consulting for families who may potentially have an infant in the NICU. Doctors counsel pregnant mothers to ensure regular antenatal check-ups, so that post-delivery complications for infants can mitigated at an early stage.
The consulting continues throughout the pregnancy until the baby is born, where the child is provides comprehensive care apt for premature and high-risk babies. Fakeeh University Hospital’s rooming-in facility enables bonding and faster recovery through skin-to-skin contact of mother and baby. Rooming-in helps the mother and the child to stay together the entire time the baby is in NICU, so that they can establish a bond, start and maintain healthy breastfeeding. For bonding between the baby and the mother, right after birth, an enabling and stable environment is needed. This is provided through the rooming-in facility allowing the babies to learn breastfeed on their own, and ensuring health of both mother & the child .
Our duty does not end with you leaving our hospital. our care team makes sure that the new family receives all the required training and preparation for the post-discharge care of the infant and the mother. Parents can also avail of follow ups in the neonatal high-risk clinic.
