Brief Profile

Dr. Elie Romanos is a highly experienced orthopedic surgeon who graduated from the University of Saint Joseph residency program, one of the strongest and most diverse in the MENA region, before pursuing extensive experience in a variety of subspecialty fellowship roles in some of the world’s leading and reputable orthopedic surgery departments in France and Canada. Through his training and extensive experience, he has developed a strong and wide array of skill sets focusing on three main subspecialties:

  • Sports medicine with a specific focus on preservative joint surgery whether by reorientation osteotomies around the hip such as Ganz osteotomy and around the knee such as high tibial osteotomy, or by arthroscopic procedures in the shoulder, or knee or ankle joints. Dr. Romanos strongly believes in an ethical, innovative and minimally invasive approach whenever possible, and has helped his patients maintain healthy and active lifestyles, keeping surgeries as a last resort, with world-class procedures such as anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using the “all inside” minimally invasive technique; meniscal suturing and/or reinsertion; management of patellar instability with Fulkerson osteotomy and MPFL reconstruction; management of anterior shoulder instability in high-level thrower athletes; rotator cuff repair with or without tendon transfers (latissimus dorsi, pectoralis major); collateral ligaments reconstruction around the ankle.
  • Lower limb reconstructive surgery, focusing on innovative minimally invasive techniques of arthroplasty such as total hip replacement using the direct anterior approach or personalized total knee replacement using three-dimensional robotic guidance. Dr. Romanos has specific expertise in the management of complex challenging arthroplasty cases such as pelvic dissociations following failed total hip replacement using cup cage reconstruction with trabecular metal technology, or management of peri-prosthetic fractures of the pelvis, hips and knees including innovative fixation techniques or revision arthroplasty. Dr. Romanos’ current area of focus and interest is in the management of peri prosthetic joint infections using the latest Prostalac drug-eluting staged technique.
  • Orthopedic trauma management of complex bone fractures and dislocations. An expert in his field, Dr. Romanos regularly presents in international medical conferences and is a member of international boards and societies such as the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the French Academy of Orthopedic Surgery (S.o.F.C.O.T), the French Arthroscopic Society, the AO Trauma Foundation, the Lebanese Oder of Physicians, and the Lebanese Orthopedic Society.
